DCLVBS AI Image Labels

DCLVBS AI Image Labels adds AI classification controls directly to the WordPress Media Library.

Images can be classified as:

• Basic AI content
• Fully AI-generated
• Partially AI-modified

The selected classification is stored as attachment metadata.

On the public website, the plugin automatically displays the corresponding AI icon as a visible overlay whenever the WordPress attachment can be reliably identified.

The original image file is never modified.

The free version supports standard WordPress images, featured images, and images inside Gutenberg and post content.

DCLVBS AI Image Labels Pro adds extended support for WooCommerce product galleries, variation images, dynamic variation galleries, and enhanced image recognition.

The use of an AI labeling icon alone does not guarantee compliance with applicable laws or regulations.

Available classifications

Each image can use one of three AI classifications, or no AI label:

• No AI label
• Basic
• Fully AI-generated
• Partially AI-modified

No AI label

No AI label is displayed for the image on the public website.

Basic

A general label for content where artificial intelligence was involved in the creation or modification process.

Fully AI-generated

For images created entirely using artificial intelligence.

Partially AI-modified

For existing images that were partially modified using artificial intelligence.

The appropriate classification should be selected according to the actual creation process and intended use of the content.

AI labeling icons

The plugin includes the official EU SVG icons for the visual labeling of AI-generated and AI-modified content, as published by the European Commission.

The European Commission makes these icons publicly available for free use without requiring attribution to the Commission or the AI Office.

The icons are displayed as separate HTML overlays on supported frontend images.

The image file itself remains unchanged.

Displaying an AI label does not by itself guarantee compliance with the EU AI Act or any other applicable law or regulation.

Website operators remain responsible for determining which transparency obligations apply to their specific use case.

How It Works

The selected classification is stored as attachment metadata.

The plugin uses the following meta key:

_dclvbs_ai_image_label

Possible stored values are:

• basic
• fully_ai
• partially_modified

When no AI classification is selected, the metadata entry is removed.

The classification remains associated with the WordPress attachment.

When the image is displayed through supported WordPress output and the underlying attachment can be reliably identified, the plugin adds the appropriate label as a frontend overlay.

The Pro version adds extended support for WooCommerce and dynamic gallery output.

A simplified output may look like this:

The actual image file remains unchanged.

Media Library

After activation, images in the WordPress Media Library receive an additional AI classification field.

The administrator can select the appropriate classification for each image.

The plugin also adds an AI column to the Media Library list view so classified images can be identified more easily.

Classification management takes place in the WordPress Media Library.

Visible frontend overlays are not displayed over images in regular administration or editor screens.

Usage

1. Install and activate the plugin.
2. Open the WordPress Media Library.
3. Select an image.
4. Choose the appropriate AI classification option.
5. Save the changes.
6. Use the image normally on the website.

For supported frontend image output, the corresponding AI label is displayed automatically.

Supported WordPress Output

Standard WordPress images

Images rendered using standard WordPress attachment functions can be labeled automatically.

The plugin supports output processed through WordPress functionality such as:

wp_get_attachment_image

Visible labeling is limited to frontend requests.

Featured images

WordPress featured images are supported.

The plugin integrates with output processed through functionality such as:

post_thumbnail_html

Gutenberg and post content

The plugin can detect WordPress images inside post content using the standard wp-image-{ID} class.

This allows supported Gutenberg and content images to receive the stored classification on the public website.

The label markup is not written into the stored post content.

Images already processed by the plugin are detected to help prevent duplicate labels.

Page builders

Images rendered by Elementor and other page builders may also be supported when the underlying image can be reliably associated with a WordPress attachment or when the builder uses supported WordPress image functions.

Enhanced filename-based image recognition for compatible gallery implementations is available in DCLVBS AI Image Labels Pro.

Compatibility with every page builder, widget, theme, or third-party module cannot be guaranteed.

Editor and administration views do not receive frontend overlays.

WooCommerce and Pro Features

DCLVBS AI Image Labels Pro includes extended support for WooCommerce.

Pro features include:

• Product images
• Product galleries
• Variation images
• Compatible variation galleries
• Dynamic switching between product variations
• Enhanced attachment recognition using filenames
• Recognition of WordPress-generated image sizes

Some standard WooCommerce image output may still be processed by the free version when WooCommerce uses standard WordPress attachment functions.

Extended WooCommerce gallery and variation support requires DCLVBS AI Image Labels Pro.

WooCommerce Variations – Pro

DCLVBS AI Image Labels Pro includes additional handling for variable WooCommerce products.

For supported variable products, classification information can be included directly in the variation data generated by WooCommerce.

When a visitor selects another variation, the corresponding label information can therefore be used immediately.

The Pro integration does not require a separate admin-ajax.php request for this label lookup.

Dynamic gallery changes can be detected using a MutationObserver, while multiple DOM changes are grouped using requestAnimationFrame().

WordPress Image Sizes – Pro

DCLVBS AI Image Labels Pro includes enhanced recognition for WordPress-generated image files.

WordPress commonly creates multiple files for a single uploaded image, including:

• Thumbnail
• Medium
• Large
• Theme-specific image sizes
• WooCommerce image sizes
• Automatically scaled images

The Pro version can associate filenames from these generated image sizes with the original attachment.

This improves compatibility with gallery implementations that do not expose the original WordPress attachment ID directly.

Frontend Display

Visible labels are displayed only on the public-facing website.

By default, the label appears near the bottom-left corner of the image.

The label:

• scales proportionally
• does not modify the original image
• does not block pointer interactions
• uses its own overlay layer
• remains visible on supported mobile layouts

The default label height is:

36px

The position and size can be customized with CSS.

Administration Area

The plugin does not add visible AI label overlays to post, product, editor, or other regular administration images.

Administration features are limited primarily to managing classifications in the WordPress Media Library.

These include:

• An AI classification field for image attachments
• The AI column in the Media Library list view
• Saving and changing the image classification

The visible label is intended for visitors on the public website.

Visible AI labels include textual information for assistive technologies.

Depending on the selected classification, descriptions include equivalents of:

• AI-generated or AI-modified content
• Fully AI-generated image
• Partially AI-modified image

The SVG image itself is hidden from screen readers using aria-hidden="true".

The meaning of the label is provided by the surrounding element using role="img" and an aria-label.

Performance

The plugin is designed to minimize unnecessary frontend processing.

Free version optimizations include:

• Request-level caching of attachment classifications
• Early content-processing exit when no relevant WordPress image classes are present
• No frontend label processing in regular WordPress administration requests

The Pro version additionally includes optimized handling for supported WooCommerce galleries and variations without requiring a separate label lookup request.

Privacy

The selected AI classification is stored locally in the WordPress database as post metadata associated with the relevant media attachment.

Classifying or displaying an image does not require the image to be automatically uploaded to or analyzed by an external AI service.

The plugin’s core AI image classification and frontend labeling functionality operates locally within WordPress and does not require images to be transmitted to an external AI service.

External Services

This plugin uses the Freemius SDK for licensing, subscription management, account-related functionality, and related commercial features.

When the website administrator opts in to Freemius services or uses functionality that requires communication with Freemius, information about the website, plugin installation, WordPress environment, and administrator account may be transmitted to Freemius.

Images classified with DCLVBS AI Image Labels are not uploaded to Freemius as part of the plugin’s AI classification or frontend labeling functionality.

• WordPress 6.0 or later
• PHP 7.4 or later

DCLVBS AI Image Labels Pro additionally requires JavaScript for supported dynamic WooCommerce variation gallery handling.

WooCommerce is only required when using WooCommerce-specific Pro functionality.

Legal Notice

DCLVBS AI Image Labels is a technical tool for managing and displaying classifications for AI-generated and AI-modified image content.

The plugin:

• does not automatically determine whether an image was generated using AI
• does not analyze image content
• does not automatically select a classification
• does not determine whether a legal labeling obligation applies
• does not modify the original image file
• does not provide a legal assessment
• does not guarantee regulatory compliance

Website operators remain responsible for determining whether and how a particular image should be labeled.
