Rupanta Media Converter

Rupanta Media Converter is a completely free WebP and AVIF image converter for WordPress. All features are included in the WordPress.org version — there is no premium edition, subscription, license key, conversion quota, or external conversion service required.

The plugin converts WordPress JPEG and PNG images to WebP and AVIF, with automatic conversion for new uploads and AJAX batch conversion for existing media library images.

Original JPEG and PNG files are kept intact. When generated modern-format files are available, WordPress attachment images can be served with <picture> markup so supported browsers can load AVIF or WebP while retaining the original image as a fallback.

Rupanta Media Converter can be used as a free WordPress image converter, free WebP converter, free AVIF converter, and batch media conversion tool without relying on a remote API.

The plugin does not send image data to third-party services. Conversion happens locally on the WordPress server using the available GD or Imagick image encoder.

Requirements

Your server must provide at least one supported image encoder:

• PHP GD with WebP and/or AVIF support.
• PHP Imagick with ImageMagick WebP and/or AVIF support.

WebP support is more common than AVIF. If AVIF encoding is unavailable on your server, disable AVIF in the plugin settings and use WebP only.
