Why Lumatag and not a subscription tool?

Most AI alt text plugins run on managed credits or monthly billing. Lumatag is sold once, not rented — bring your own API key, pay a single upgrade fee for Pro features, and there’s nothing recurring to cancel later.

External services

This plugin can connect to third-party AI providers to analyze uploaded images
and generate descriptive alt text. Depending on which provider you configure in
Settings, the plugin sends the image (base64-encoded) and a text prompt to that
provider’s API to generate a caption. No image data is sent unless you have
configured an API key for that provider and triggered alt text generation —
either by uploading an image with “Auto-generate on Upload” turned on, by
clicking “Generate Alt Text with AI” on an existing image, or (Pro) by running
Bulk Alt Text. None of these calls happen on a schedule or in the background
without one of those user actions; there is no cron-based or unattended
generation.

Bulk Alt Text (Pro) can generate for many images in one run, sending each
selected image to the configured provider in small batches (up to 5 at a time)
as the run progresses, rather than as a single combined request.

OpenAI (Chat Completions API)
Used to analyze images and generate alt text when OpenAI is selected as the
provider. Sends the image (base64) and a text prompt to OpenAI’s API each time
alt text is generated.

Google Cloud Vision
Used to analyze images (label and object detection) to help generate alt text
when Google Cloud Vision is selected as the provider. Sends the image (base64)
to the Cloud Vision API each time alt text is generated.
