Spurn helps site owners and SEOs manage the links they disavow in Google Search Console.

Paste or drop any backlink export: a plain list, an Ahrefs or Semrush export, a CSV, or an existing disavow file. Spurn picks out the domains and links, drops anything already on your list, and shows the rest for review before anything is saved. Every batch is saved as a dated set with its source and reason, so you always know what you disavowed, when, and why.

What it does

  • Reads messy exports. Handles CSV and UTF-16 files, smart quotes, bullets, IDN names, defanged links like example[.]com, several links in one cell, and more. IP addresses and email addresses are ignored and counted.
  • Removes repeats. Domains and links already on your list are skipped. “www.” is dropped, because a domain line already covers it. Subdomains of a listed domain are skipped too.
  • Understands subdomains. Uses the Public Suffix List, so a shared host like pages.dev or blogspot.com never hides the separate sites on it. Every subdomain is tagged, and a “By site” view groups each domain with its subdomains and links.
  • Flags risky entries. Shared hosts, your own site, major platforms, unknown endings and over-long links start unticked so they aren’t disavowed by accident.
  • Exports for Google. One click gives you a disavow file in Google’s format, with optional comments for each set’s date, source and reason. Meters show the file against Google’s 100,000-line and 2 MB limits. A plain list is available for other tools.
  • Tracks uploads. Mark each upload to Google and see what has been added since.
  • Compares with Google. Paste the list Google already has to see what’s missing from either side, and import the difference in one click.
  • Undo everywhere. Removing an entry, deleting a set or marking an upload can be undone.

Spurn follows Google’s own advice: most sites never need to disavow, and removing good links can hurt. The review step and the “Before you disavow” guide are there to help you disavow only what you should.

All processing happens in your browser and your WordPress database. Spurn sends nothing to any outside service.

Third-party data

Spurn bundles a compacted copy of the Public Suffix List (https://publicsuffix.org/) in assets/data/public-suffix-list.txt. Comments were removed and internationalized rules converted to punycode; the file keeps its original licence notice.

The Public Suffix List is licensed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 (https://mozilla.org/MPL/2.0/). MPL 2.0 is compatible with GPLv2 or later through its “Secondary License” terms (section 3.3), and the list is not marked “Incompatible With Secondary Licenses”. The list itself stays under MPL 2.0.
