War Map Live

War Map Live is the official WordPress plugin for War Map Live — a live war map of ongoing conflict, built from public news feeds and refreshed every few minutes.

It puts the same real-time conflict map you see on warmaplive.com directly on your own site: incidents appear on an interactive world map as they are reported, each one linking back to the article it came from. Drop it on a page with a shortcode or a block and it keeps itself up to date — there is nothing to sync and nothing to maintain.

Add [warmaplive] to any page and the map appears, full width and interactive, exactly as it is on warmaplive.com. It keeps updating on your page on its own — there is nothing to sync and nothing to maintain.

What the map shows

• Nothing invented and nothing seeded. An empty map means nothing has been reported in that window — not that the map is broken.

You need a free embed key

warmaplive.com refuses to be framed by default, so an ordinary <iframe> pointing at it shows an empty box. An embed key lifts that for the domains you list on it, and nothing else.

Getting one takes about a minute at id.lumorabuild.com/account/embeds: name your site, list your domain, copy the key, paste it into the plugin. It is free and it does not consume credits.

Because a key only permits showing the map on your own domains, it is not a secret and it is safe to leave in your page source. It is worthless to anyone else.

In WordPress

• Shortcode — [warmaplive] anywhere a shortcode works: post, page, text widget, page builder.
• Block — search for “War Map Live” in the block editor. Live preview, height and credit controls in the sidebar.
• Per-embed options — height, maximum width, accessible frame title, an optional credit link (off unless you turn it on), extra CSS class.
• Connection check — one button that says whether your key is valid and whether this exact domain is allowed to use it. That second half is the thing browsers will not tell you: a valid key on an unlisted domain just renders an empty box, with the reason buried in a developer console. The result is kept, so the Overview screen always shows where the site actually stands rather than merely whether a key has been typed in.

Light on your site

• The map loads lazily, in its own frame, after your page.
• Your server does no work. It never contacts War Map Live on a visitor’s request — the only outbound call the plugin ever makes is when an administrator presses the connection check button.
• The stylesheet is only loaded on pages that actually contain a map.
• No tracking, no analytics, no scripts added to your pages by this plugin.

Official plugin

This is the official War Map Live plugin. War Map Live (warmaplive.com) is a service built and operated by Lumora (lumorabuild.com), the author of this plugin — it is not a third-party integration with somebody else’s product.

External service

The plugin is a client for the War Map Live service. The plugin itself is free; an embed key is required for the map to display, because the map is generated and hosted on the service.

Your server contacts https://www.warmaplive.com in exactly one situation: when an administrator presses the connection check button. It sends your embed key and this site’s address, and receives back whether the two match. Nothing else is ever sent, and never on a visitor’s request.

A visitor’s browser requests the map from https://www.warmaplive.com directly when it renders a page containing the embed, exactly as it would for any embedded map. Their request carries the embed key (so the map knows it is allowed to appear on your site) and the standard information any web request carries. No visitor data passes through your server to us, and this plugin sets no cookies.
